Be part of a vibrant performing arts group with a storied history that spans nearly a century. Established in 1920, the Burbank Chorale is the longest continuously performing arts organization in the San Fernando Valley and one of the oldest musical organizations in the State of California. Our Mission is to attract individuals who share a love of music, dedication to musical growth, and the desire to provide excellence in performance.

The Burbank Chorale is looking for new singers, 18 years of age and older, in all ranges. In order to be accepted, one must possess the ability to sing on pitch and have good tone quality. The ability to blend well with other singers and a desire to work as part of a team is also important.

To all those wishing to audition, please be aware of the following crucial dates to set aside on your calendar, regarding our Spring Season:

What to Expect at Your Audition

A) When you come to audition, the Artistic Director will test your vocal range to place you as a soprano, alto, tenor, or bass. He may ask you to sing  a few bars of a simple familiar song such as “America the Beautiful” or “Happy Birthday” to demonstrate your vocal range.

B) The person about to audition is encouraged to come to the rehearsal and sing with the choir to see if he/she likes singing in a choral atmosphere.

C) Following the rehearsal the person will be called in to audition in front of the conductor and the membership director.

       1) Have prepared a song that the person is very comfortable singing and will show off that person's voice.
       2) The person might be asked to run through some vocal exercises so that the conductor can decide what section the person is best placed in.
       3) The person will be asked about his ability to work in a choral atmosphere.
       4) The person will be asked if he/she can meet the requirements of the schedule for the upcoming season.

D) The person will usually be told if he/she has been accepted following the audition.

Membership Dues

Membership dues are $80 for each half of the nine month concert season ($160 per season). Membership dues are payable by the third rehearsal, and are non-refundable.

Music Deposit

There is a one-time music deposit fee of $10.00 payable on the day of your first rehearsal. Paying this deposit allows you to take your music home with you. This one-time fee will be refunded to you upon request if you leave the chorale.

Time Commitment for Singers

  • Rehearsals begin Tuesday, January 10th 2012, and are every Tuesday night from 7 - 9:30 p.m. at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church, Johanna Avenue, Sunland 91404.
  • All Day Intensive, is on a Saturday (generally in November and April) from 10-4 (THIS REHEARSAL IS REQUIRED).
  • Concert Dress Rehearsal, either in the morning or afternoon of the scheduled concert performance (THIS REHEARSAL IS REQUIRED).
  • Concerts. Up to two in December and up to two in late spring. Additional optional performance opportunities may also become available.
  • Chorale members are expected to put in personal practice time on their own time.

Attendance

Regular attendance at all rehearsals and performances is EXPECTED AND MANDATORY. Section Leaders take attendance at each rehearsal. If you cannot attend a rehearsal, please notify your Section Leader in advance. Each member is allowed up to three (3) missed rehearsals.
At the discretion of the Artistic and Membership Directors, more than three (3) absences or chronic tardiness may result in your dismissal from the chorale.

Wardrobe

Each member is responsible for purchasing and maintaining his or her own performance wardrobe.

Men. Tuxedos are required. If you do not own a tuxedo, speak with the Men’s Section Leader, who will explain options on how to obtain one.

Women. Official Burbank Chorale Concert Dress and Pearl Necklace. ~$106.00 (price subject to change). Our membership director will give you information and order form.
